Participation of the Greek Living Earth project in the international conference “Crop Science and Technology: Shaping the Future of Agriculture – 80 Years of Science, Growing the Future”
Members of the Greek Living Earth team from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH) and the Interbalkan Environment Center (i-BEC) participated in the international conference “Crop Science and Technology: Shaping the Future of Agriculture – 80 Years of Science, Growing the Future”, organized by the Maize Research Institute “Zemun Polje” in Belgrade, Serbia, from 29 September to 2 October 2025.
On 30 September 2025, the project was presented through a scientific poster entitled “The Greek Living Earth: A National Digital Infrastructure for Soil Carbon”, showcasing its innovative approach as a national digital infrastructure for soil health monitoring and climate-resilient agriculture in Greece.
The presentation highlighted the creation of a digital soil twin, integrating satellite and UAV data, IoT sensor networks, field diagnostic tools, and interpretable AI/ML models within an open-source national data cube. This infrastructure enables continuous monitoring of soil carbon stocks and fluxes, supports carbon farming practices, CAP compliance reporting, and access to verified carbon markets.
