The Greek Living Earth project contributes to the international dialogue on Carbon Farming and Digital Monitoring Infrastructures
The Synelixis Solutions team (Dr. Theodoros Zachariadis, Ms. Georgia Athanasiou, Mr. Ilias Seitanidis, and Mr. Panagiotis Athanasoulis) participated in the writing and presentation of the scientific paper titled «Carbon Farming in Contemporary Agriculture: Scientific Foundations and Digital Infrastructures» at the International Conference on Circular Economy Models for Sustainable Resource Use (ICCEMSRU-26), which took place on May 22–23, 2026, in Beijing, China
The paper investigates the scientific, technological, and operational dimensions of carbon farming, with a particular focus on the challenges of Measurement, Reporting and Verification (MRV) and the role of digital infrastructures for the reliable monitoring of carbon stocks and flows.
A central message of the presentation was that the effective implementation of carbon farming necessitates the combination of scientifically documented agricultural practices, reliable monitoring mechanisms, and advanced digital infrastructures that ensure the transparency, interoperability, and reliability of the generated results.
The paper utilized data and principles developed within the framework of the Greek Living Earth (GLE) project, highlighting the importance of integrated digital infrastructures for supporting carbon monitoring services and the transition towards more sustainable and resilient agrifood systems.
