International Conference on Circular Economy Models for Sustainable Resource Use (ICCEMSRU-26)

The programme opened with registration and three keynote speeches, followed by a continuous technical presentation sessions. Within the SDG 9 track, dedicated to “Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure,” Dr. Theodore Zahariadis, CTO of Synelixis and Dr. Georgia Athanasiou, Synelixis Research Agronomist, presented the paper “Carbon Farming in Contemporary Agriculture: Scientific Foundations & Digital Infrastructures”, which was partially funded by project Greek Living Earth (GLE).

The presentation addressed carbon farming as a systemic approach linking soil carbon, agricultural resilience, biodiversity, water management, and trustworthy digital monitoring. The talk highlighted the role of a reliable, measurable and auditable reliable Monitoring, Reporting and Verification framework that combines field measurements, calibrated models, remote sensing, transparent uncertainty assessment, and provenance-aware workflows.

A central message of the presentation was that credible carbon farming depends on the effective integration of agronomic science, appropriate incentive mechanisms, robust governance, and interoperable digital infrastructures. Dr. Zahariadis highlighted the importance of combining multisource data ingestion, standards-based interoperability, AI-enabled services, and operational outputs such as soil organic carbon maps, carbon indicators, and dashboard layers to support scalable and climate-smart agricultural practices. Dr. Athanasiou also contributed to the discussion, participating in the panel and addressing questions related to agronomic perspectives and practitioner interests.

ESNI-NERM 2026 Conference, Brussels, 28-29 April 2026 (GLE poster)

Theodore Zahariadis and Gina Athanasiou represented the GLE project via a dedicated poster at the joined European Sustainable Nutrient Initiative (ESNI) and Nutrients in Europe Research Meeting (NERM) conference (ESNI-NERM). GLE poster highlighted GLE objectives, methodological approach, and expected contribution to the wider European research and innovation landscape. The poster presentation offered an opportunity to disseminate GLE outcomes, engage with relevant stakeholders, and explore potential synergies with initiatives addressing sustainability, innovation, and collaborative knowledge exchange.

GLE liaison with Horizon Europe project CyberNEMO

Ilias Seitanidis from Synelixis presented the GLE Project in the context of a liaison activity with the CyberNEMO project, funded by the European Union’s Horizon Europe research and innovation programme under Grant Agreement No. 101168182. The event took place from 15 to 17 April 2026 in Rome, Italy, and provided an opportunity to introduce the objectives, technical scope, and expected outcomes of the GLE Project to relevant stakeholders and representatives from the CyberNEMO consortium. As Synelixis serves as the project coordinator of CyberNEMO, the activity also supported stronger inter-project communication, knowledge exchange, and the identification of potential synergies between the two initiatives. The presentation contributed to broader collaboration within the European research and innovation ecosystem.

GLE liaison with Horizon Europe project ENDURANCE

During the ENDURANCE Plenary Meeting held in Dublin on 6–7 May 2026, the GLE project established a valuable liaison with the Horizon Europe project ENDURANCE, reinforcing cross-project collaboration and knowledge exchange. Synelixis was represented by Emmanuel Mavrogiorgis, who contributed to discussions on potential synergies between GLE activities and ENDURANCE’s work on resilience, technical progress, and future implementation planning. The interaction provided an opportunity to align complementary expertise, explore common methodological approaches, and identify pathways for cooperation in areas of mutual interest. This liaison supports the broader objective of strengthening the impact of European research initiatives through networking, exchange of good practices, and coordinated dissemination among Horizon projects. The ENDURANCE Dublin plenary focused on collaboration, technical progress, and planning for the project’s next stages.
